Why McCain?
Can anyone tell me, why I should vote for McCain? Seriously. I’m a Republican who, unfortunately, voted for Dubya twice and still, the thought of voting for Obama is a bit hard to stomach. I’ve been comparing the two candidates and have looked at their respective voting histories, and while there is a lot that I dislike about Obama, there is a substantial amount more that I dislike about McCain. While Obama lost some points with me over his recent selection of running mates, I still find myself edging towards the Democratic nominee. I find it highly unfortunate that the GOP opted for McCain. During the primaries, I was pushing for Ron Paul or Mitt Romney. Now, we have McCain … why?
Certainly there’s something that voters are finding in him that maybe I’ve overlooked. So what gives, what’s the story – why are some people seriously considering McCain?
8/30/08 update: With his latest choice in running mate, I’m further amazed at how far removed I feel from the current GOP climate. Sure, our tenant values remain the same, but the separation between these values is increasing. How far right will the GOP sway, and at what point will this stretching between classical Republicans and the _Neo-Conservatives fracture into two distinct parties?
